AI for business

Prepare the foundations before rolling out Microsoft Copilot

AI can make existing information easier to use—but weak permissions and unmanaged data can also become easier to expose.

Begin with a useful business case

Select roles and workflows where assistance with drafting, summarising, meetings or information retrieval may save meaningful time. A focused pilot creates better evidence than buying licences for everyone before expectations and data are understood.

Agree what success looks like, which information can be used and where human review remains essential.

Review Microsoft 365 information access

Copilot works within the permissions available to each user. Overshared SharePoint sites, broad Teams membership and forgotten external guests should be addressed before rollout. Information ownership, retention and sensitivity also need clear responsibility.

  • Review SharePoint and Teams access
  • Remove unnecessary anonymous links
  • Confirm account and device security
  • Identify authoritative information sources
  • Document acceptable use and review requirements

Pilot, support and improve

A representative pilot group can test real work, identify training needs and expose data-quality or permission problems. Staff should understand that generated output can be incomplete or incorrect and must be checked before business use.

ITSPLUS can help prepare Microsoft 365, design a controlled pilot and support users as practices mature.
